Last Friday the Aluva Excise Circle Office received a phone call from a person who warned about what he suspected as a Ganja factory next to the Kochi Metro Pillar 87 near the Aluva KSRTC garage.

The excise team that reached the place discovered that suspicion was when they visibly taken ‘the 63-cm long plant’ in custody ‘in the midst of bushes and weeds. Subsequently, a case was registered under the narcotic resources and psychotropic substances act section 20 (A) (every cannabis plant cultivates). However, the chances of getting an accused in such cases are very unlikely or almost impossible.

Although the case relates to the cultivation of the cannabis plant and is related to grabbing ganja of small quantities, a rescue browse, said that sources were far from cultivation, but happened to sprout of ganja from residues, such as seeds, abandoned by ganja users.

“Ganja plants that are being cultivated and maintained are very clear in contrast to a chance growth of Ganja plants in public places. This usually happens in places visited by Ganja users who in many cases include the seeds. These seeds, when dumped in their property, sed.

This was neither a new nor a rare phenomenon. Only the last month the Aluva Accise Range office grabbed nine Ganja plants in comparable circumstances from a piece along the Aluva Manappuram, from where the excise has often taken up small amounts of Ganja in the past. Similar cases were also reported in previous years. This accidentally grown ganja plants are noticed when they become high enough or are specifically warned.

However, these cases differ from those of Ganja plants are deliberately grown and maintained for personal consumption or sale. For example, three migrants were arrested by the Aluva Police and the National Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force district with four such Ganja plants on Tuesday. They lived for rent near Aluva Muttom, where they reportedly grew the plants. Almost seven kilograms of suspected ganja were also seized from them.
