The prices in the North India auction Centers fell in the reach of 10-15 percent on an annual basis on the past month in the past month after a strong increase in the availability of the brew.

Apart from a higher production, the import of cheap Kenyan tea played a loot at the auctions, according to the observers of the industry.

The amount of tea sold in Sales Nrs 24 to 28 (from the second week of June to the second week of July) this year in Guwahati, Siliguri and Kolkata Auction Centers rose to 51.79 million kg (mkg) of 39.42 mkg during the same NOS sales last year.

The average prices realized in Sales Nrs 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 in the three Noord -India auction centers were £ 246.49, £ 235.52, £ 233.23, £ 232.48 and £ 229.04 respectively. They had risen by around 2 percent, 10 percent, 13 percent, 15 percent and 14 percent, year after year, against £ 251.75, RS 259.19, £ 264.47, £ 267.30 and £ 261.12 per kg a year ago, per data of Tea Board and Nseit.

Huge import

“This time the average prices realized in the auction centers of North India, because the quantity sold was much more than the period of the year ago. And due to more availability of the crop, prices continued to fall last month,” said Calcutta Tea Tradiation Secretary Kalyan Sundaram.

According to the data from Tea Board India, the tea production in North India increased from 2025 in January-May period from 2025 to 240.29 million kg compared to approximately 192.18 million kg output during the first five months of 2024.

Talk with lineIndian Tea Association (ITA) Chairman Hemant Bangur said that the auction prices have fallen due to higher domestic delivery and increasing import from Kenya.

“Many teas are imported from Kenya and it also plays spoil sport in the sentiments. Input of cheap Kenyan teas has risen considerably this year. It reduces prices in the domestic market. And these are untenable prices,” said Bangur, who called the ITA to the MeanteMaattaf van de Steeboord from De Steebord van de Stee -Bord van de Stee -Bord van de Stee -Bord van de Stee -Bord van de Stee -Bord from the Bord Bordreaf of the Bord Bordreaf of the Bord Bordreaf of the Bord Bord Bordroad.

Pesticide

“We wrote a letter to the tea board that investigated the case,” he said.

Industrial observers have also expressed their concern about some gardens that do not meet the strict standards for pesticides in teas.

“The tea production has increased this year because last year’s tea clouds and all organizations were very strict in the MRLS (maximum residue limits) compliants. This year the compliance went for a shot,” said an industry insider.
