Ukraine has received the bodies of another 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers killed with Russia in the war, as part of agreements to exchange both prisoners of war and the dead, the Ukrainian officials said Sunday.

In various stock markets so far this month, Ukraine has repatriated more than 4,800 authorities, said Ukrainian officials.

This marks one of the greatest returns of war deaths since Russia launched its full invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Russian state agencies Tass and Ria both reported the transfer and said that Moscow had not received any Russian corpse in exchange.

“As part of the agreements in Istanbul, the repatriation of the bodies of the deceased continues,” said the Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who led the Ukrainian delegation earlier this month during conversations in Istanbul.

“Today the Russian side handed another 1200 bodies to Ukraine.”

Mr. Umerov said that the next step is “important and responsible phase of identification”.

“This is a complex and delicate work that gives every family the opportunity to receive answers.“

It is the fourth in a series of transfers of the remains of soldiers in the past week, in accordance with an agreement reached between Russia and Ukraine during conversations in Istanbul.

Kyiv and Moscow agreed with every hand of no fewer than 6,000 bodies and to exchange sick and wounded war prisoners and those who are younger than 25 years old.

Russia has so far reported that they have received a total of 27 Russian soldiers in exchange.

Ukraine and Russia have so far carried out three exchanges of prisoners of war, but have not announced any exact figures.
