Derby County has introduced itself for an unknown compensation, Carlton Morris from Luton Town.
Morris came to Luton’s summer from Barnsley at Luton and scored 20 goals when he helped the Hatters promote to the Premier League in his first season at the club, but has had consecutive degradations with the team in the last two seasons.
However, the 29-year-old will not be part of Luton’s team for their push to win promotion from League One back to the championship, after the club had accepted an unknown transfer costs for him from Derby.
During his time at Luton, Morris scored 39 goals and contributed 16 assists in 137 performances and in his first interview as a derby player, he thought about what it meant for the Hatters and thinks a new start is needed on Kenilworth Road.
“I thought it was great. It is emotional to be honest, but it is a new chapter for me. I think it would be good for them to have some new faces in the door and hopefully they can also attract.”
Morris also revealed that he discussed his move with ex Luton manager, Rob Edwards, who supported the transfer as he praised first team coaches, Keith Downing and Matt Gardiner, in confidence that Morris can improve under their guidance.
“I spoke with Rob Edwards, who told me how good Keith Downing is and that Matt Gardiner is also exceptional to work with. They are only going to make me a better player who is crucial because I am in a place where I am probably the most coaching I have been in my career and ready to kick.”
Morris started his career in Norwich, where he only appeared one senior in the midst of Oxford United, York City, Hamilton, two spells in Rotherham, Shrewsbury and MK Down, before spending two seasons in Barnsley who ended in the decrease in the end of 2021-22.
