NOIDA’s Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced that from 1 November gasoline and diesel will no longer be provided to vehicles that have exceeded the permitted age limit – 10 years for diesel and 15 years for gasoline. This decision, implemented under the guidelines of the Air Quality Management (CAQM) committee, is aimed at curbing rising levels of pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR).
To enforce the prohibition, Cameras Automatic Number Plaat Recognition (ANPR) are installed at gas pumps in Noida and Ghaziabad. These cameras scan vehicle number plates and immediately verify their age via the database of the transport department. Vehicles found in violation are refused on the spot fuel.
According to data from the Gautam Buddha Nagar Transport Department, almost 2.08 Lakh vehicles in the district fall into this limited category. Notices are already being sent to owners of these vehicles and advise them to take appropriate action.
The RTO has urged owners to get a certificate without an objection (NOC) to transfer their vehicle outside the NCR or to surrender to the department.
Authorities have warned that non -compliance with compliance can lead to fines and seizure. After the implementation of the order on 1 November, the transport and traffic departments are expected to be confronted with logistics obstacles, especially when identifying and managing offenders.
Dumping old vehicles will also be a major problem in Noida once the order has been implemented, because there is no fixed regulation for dumping outdated vehicles in the district.
