A man arrested for plowing his car in the crowd in honor of the victory of Liverpool’s Premier League title is held on suspicion of driving while they are hit by drugs.
While football fans from the United Kingdom and abroad gathered in the port city of Liverpool, a Ford Galaxy rammed into the crowd on Tuesday.
Four children belonged to the 64 wounded and 11 people stay in a stable state in the hospital, according to the local police.
Water Street was closed for traffic, but the police claim that the driver of the car could follow an ambulance who had a man who had a man who had suffered a suspected heart attack by a roadblock that had been temporarily lifted.
A 53-year-old, white British man was arrested and is being held “on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving while unsuitable drugs,” said assistant head commissioner Jenny Sims. No costs have been laid yet.
“An extensive investigation into the precise circumstances of the incident is underway,” sims added.
‘Deeply shocked and sad’
“It is really devastating to see that what should have been a joyful celebration, because so many could end in such painful circumstances,” Charles said in a statement.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also expressed his shock about the incident.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is wounded and affected. You will never walk alone,” he said, following the famous national anthem of the club, which had only hurled up the city for hours earlier.
The car plowed in a dense crowd in Water Street just after an open bus parade with open-top with Liverpool manager Arne Slot and star players, including Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, passed.
The incident is not treated as an act of terrorism.
