A man who was a minor when he stabbed the young Victorian doctor Ashley Gordon and killed was found guilty of murder by a jury in the Melbourne Supreme Court.

The man, who cannot be called for legal reasons, did not argue guilty of the murder and claimed that he acted in self -defense.

But during the trial lawyers described for the persecution how a group of boys broke into the young doctor’s house twice in one night, before Dr. Gordon chased them.

The court heard that they had healthier to steal his Mercedes AMG and ran when they heard him say ‘Hello, boys’ in the dark.

Dr. Gordon, 33, told his roommate that he was going after them, jumped in his car and searched nearby streets before he found them.

Then Dr. Gordon got out of the car, he told the boys that there could not run anywhere.

Three of the young people jumped a nearby fence, but one, known to the court as KT, who has now been convicted of murder, stabbed him 11 times.

Public Prosecutor Kristie Churchill refuted claims of the defense that the boy was scared at the time and acted in self -defense.

She pointed out that the actions of Dr. Gordon were “completely legal”.

“He doesn’t threaten anyone, he doesn’t arm himself. He was in the minority,”

Mrs. Churchill said.

“He didn’t even put shoes on before he left his house. He didn’t look for a violent confrontation.”

It was a slap of 10.8 centimeters through the breast of Dr. Gordon who pierced his heart and aorta, who eventually killed him.

Ashley’s legacy

Since the death of Dr. Gordon argued his family for the reform of the bail legislation, in view of the fact that the accused was on bail at the time of his insult.

Dr. Gordon had made his Latrobe Valley proud, proven by the large crowd that gathered to sail him off at his funeral.

“Thank goodness, the legal system today had a small victory,” said Dr. Gordon’s sister Natalie Gordon.

“It is a huge relief and we want to thank the community for all support.”

Mrs. Gordon told the ABC that the judicial process was almost unbearable.

“It is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to endure, listen to those who tried to reduce his character and make him sound like the monster,” said Mrs. Gordon.

“It was really nice to hear the judge compliment us on the way we could keep ourselves against each other.

“Our most sincere thanks to everyone for the constant support through the entire process and always believing in what a great person Ashley was.”

Claims of self -defense

During the trial, the defense team claimed that the suspect acted in self -defense.

In the days after the attack, the boys who fled the country and burned their clothes were discussed under a viaduct.

“There would be no reason to burn your clothes with the blood on them if you were only worried about being caught for a burglary,” said Mrs. Churchill.

They compared the size of Dr. Gordon, who was long and athletic, with the accused, who was a minor.

But public prosecutors claimed that, regardless of how afraid the accused of Dr. Gordon was, repeated strokes with a knife the size of a pen were not a suitable answer.

“An unarmed man, alone, is clear to arrest him, whose house he had just broken into the middle of the night to produce a knife and dump it in his chest, we suggest, is not a reasonable answer,” said Mrs. Churchill.

The convicted man will be confronted in October in October with the court and conviction at the Melbourne Supreme Court.
