Former federal liberal parliament member Bridget Archer says that her support for a Hobart AFL stadium is “100 percent locked”, after previously argued that the state should invest in health about “AFL teams in Hobart”.

The Renegade Liberal, who lost her chair in last month’s federal elections, has announced that she will look for party competition for Bas’s state seat, if an early Tasmanian election is called up.

Prime Minister Jeremy Rockliff will ask the Governor Barbara Baker on Tuesday to consider an early election after the accounts of the emergency budget have been taken, after a successful vote of no confidence in him last week.

Archer initially critically about the stadium

Mrs. Archer, a moderate liberal who crossed the floor several times during her stint in the federal parliament, submitted a speech for an anti-stadium rally in 2023.

Read by actor Essie Davis, said the speech that Mrs. Archer Tasmania supported an AFL team, “but it should never have been stated that almost $ 1 billion was spent on an unnecessary third stadium”.

Mrs. Archer has confirmed that she has submitted the speech to the rally.

Mrs. Archer also argued in 2022 that Tasmania should invest in health over “Afl teams in Hobart”.

At that time, the federal liberals were critical about the obligation of $ 240 million from the federal government to have the stadium built.

After her election defeat, Mrs. Archer told ABC Radio last month that the stadium had come as a problem during the federal campaign.

She said it was up to the state government to make the case. It could be both the essential services that Tasmanians trust and build a stadium, an argument that, according to them, “do not cut”.

“Certainly, there was a lot of comments on the doors, on the streets of voters about their frustration about continuing with the stadium,” she said last month.

“That will ultimately be a matter for the state government, but there is no doubt that for many people it is still a barnacle in terms of whether they think it is the right approach.“

But Mrs. Archer has now told Tasmanians that she is a pro-stadium.

Archer Backflips on stadium posture

In a message about the YES AFT-Team-Yes Stadium Facebook page, Mrs. Archer insured a supporter for Pro stadium that she now supports the controversial proposal.

“I am 100 percent locked up,” she said in the post.

And on Sunday speaking with reporters, she said that the liberal team was united in his support for the stadium.

“I am a foundation member of the Devils, like many other Tasmanians, and we know if we don’t have a stadium that we don’t have a team,” she said.

“I want to see a team, I want to see that our young people get to work and play in that Tasmanian Guernsey.”

Minister Felix Ellis said that he expected strong support for the stadium from Mrs. Archer and the broader team if the liberal party is preparing for an election.

“We have an incredible group of people who work as a united team and who want to build a better Tasmania,” he said.

“We have strong support for those positions and delivering the intergenerational infrastructure that Tasmanians deserve.

“We go back in our leader and our team. We have a strong plan to build an even better Tasmania and that is clearly our focus.”
