Participants explored the continuous legacy of black media while mapping paths for future sustainability.
The Black ownership Media Equity & Sustainability Institute (Bomesi) concluded this weekend its impactful top 2025 summit in Detroit and signed a diverse assembly of black media owners, publishers and innovators aimed at strengthening the future of industry.
From 6-8 June, in the Cambria Hotel Detroit Downtown, the conference underlined themes of ‘growth rooted in inheritance, ownership and the Continued evolution From black-owned media, ‘using Detroit’s rich cultural carpet as a background.
The top was intended to power and equip black media platforms, causing them to recognize their crucial role in shaping stories and promoting the community. Rhonesha BYNG, co-founder of Bomesi and founder/CEO of her agenda, together with Dévon Christopher Johnson, co-founder of Bomesi and founder and CEO of Bleulife Media Group, defended the event as an essential meeting to “play in the media, platforms and people.
Discussions include useful insights for business lifespan, authentic community structure and sharing resources, with attendees who participated in panels and industrial workshops guided by experts. Sessions delve into income strategies, advertising sales, target group development and digital transformation, all tailor -made to tackle the unique challenges and opportunities of black media.
The Detroit setting, a city that is known for its historical significance in cultivating Black Excellence, from the Underground Railroad to Motown Records, offered a powerful symbol for the top mission to promote growth and innovation.
An important session, entitled “on the other side of the rainbow: how to reach LGBTQ consumers outside a flag”, exuberant Emil Wilbekin and Alex Hughes, founder and CEO of Hughes Brand Group, as speakers, who offer strategies for authentic involvement in the LGBTQ consumer basis.
The conversation was professionally moderated by Giselle Phelps, CEO and founder of Grand Rising Talent, and emphasized the dedication of the top for extensive discussions about inclusive marketing and target group range.

The event also emphasized the continuous efforts of initiatives such as the Bomesi accelerator, who is working on positioning media companies with black ownership for sustainable companies with large advertisers, who bridge gaps in Infrastructure and access to capital.
The collective energy and shared dedication underlined a powerful vision of a more inclusive and representative media landscape, which reinforces the indispensable voice of black platforms today.
