Pew Research Center has shown that a majority of Americans are against raids in the workplace for enforcement of immigration. This is amidst continuous immigration and customs enforcement operations and a shift in president Donald TrumpImmigration policy.

What happened: The survey, which interviews more than 5,000 American adults, showed that 54% of the respondents reject the increasing ice attacks at workplaces where people without papers can be used, while 45% approves.

Public opinion was almost evenly distributed on involving local and national law enforcement in deportation efforts, with 50% supporting the idea and 49% is against it. In the meantime, 60% of Americans opposed the stopping of most asylum applications compared to 39% that supported the move. A similar share also opposed the termination of temporary protected status (TPS) for immigrants who had fled war or other crises.

In general, the Trump administration’s immigration policy received more negative than positive feedback, with 47% disapproving and 42% approval.

Interestingly, a majority of Americans (56%) supports the expansion of the border wall of the US-Mexico, a policy that was an important priority for President Trump’s first term.

Why it matters: This survey comes at a time when the Trump administration has insisted on aggressive immigration policy. President Trump recently dedicated Ice to launch ‘the largest mass portation program in history’, aimed at cities such as Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

However, this aggressive attitude causes a financial tribe on ICE, where the agency runs the risk of having the money more. The continuous action of immigration and the subsequent decrease in the number has been emphasized by experts as a more serious negative supply shock for the economy than the rates imposed by President Trump.
