Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended the cancellation of a face-to-face meeting with President Donald Trump of the United States, after meetings with other world leaders and American officers on the G7 summit.
Albanian said that Trump’s focus was “completely understandable” to tackle reporters since the sidelines were canceled.
“We will meet each other quickly and I am sure that will happen. You know, from time to time meetings will be planned again. That is what happens,” he said in Kananaskis, Canada.

Albanian said that Australia was not the only country that had his meeting with the American leader again planned.

“The [US] President was of course involved in the circumstances around Iran and Israel, “said Albanese.
“That meant that the meetings that were planned – not only with myself, but with India, Ukraine, including [Ukrainian] President [Volodymyr] Zenskyy, Mexico and other countries, did not take place today.
“But we are all mature about that. We understand the circumstances there are.”

Albanian revealed that although he had met American officials at night, Trump had not had direct contact with regard to the canceled meeting.

PM with a weight of NATO

Albanian is considering returning abroad within a few days to attend the top of the North Atlantic Convention Organization (NATO), who can offer another chance to meet Trump.
NATO leaders will meet in The Hague, the Netherlands, on 24-25 June. Trump is expected to be present while insisting on European allies to increase their defense budgets.
The top Albanians could offer the opportunity to include discussions about American rates and the Aukus agreement, that is Under assessed in Washington.

“Yes, that is being considered,” said Albanese, responding to SBS News’s questions about whether NATO top was on the agenda.

At night, Albanese met the American Minister of Finance Scott Bessent, director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett and the American trade representative Jamieson Greer.

The ambassador of Australia in the US Kevin Rudd was also in the conversations, the prime minister said that they were concentrated on supporting the US on critical minerals and “Australia’s position on rates”, which repeated the history of free trade and a trade surplus.

New partnership for safety and defense with the EU

The prime minister confirmed that the negotiations on a new defense and safety pact are underway with the European Union.
He said he was “please” after discussions with the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the European councilor António Costa in Kananaskis.
“We see this as an important framework for our current and future cooperation in areas such as the defense industry, cyber and terrorism,” he said reporters.

“And we will advance our respective ministers in the coming weeks. But we hope to conclude those discussions fairly quickly.”

The EU has similar deals with other allies, including Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
The Pact, which Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Minister of Defense Richard Marles have the task of securing cooperation, would strengthen cooperation in the light of global uncertainty.
It is understood that it would not include Australian troop implementation in the event that an EU member was attacked.
