“Calgarians are known for their patience and hospitality. We just ask for a little bit of both for the coming days.”

Rolling blockages as a result of motorcades can also affect Calgary pendulers in the short term during the top.

“We’re going to meet on Sunday to send a loud and clear message to World Leaders Meeting on the G7 Summit – Water is not a merchandise and it should not be negotiated,” said activist Jesse Cardinal.

She is the executive director of Keepers of the waterA group that strives for voices from native Canadians who are concerned about the use of one of the most valuable resources in the country.

The group will be part of a peaceful meeting of various organizations on 15 June in one of the protest zones in the Calgary Municipal Complex.

“We are native people and we gather on traditional indigenous territory,” Cardinal explained.

“We respect the zones that are blocked where we should not be for safety reasons.”

With such a large influx of law enforcement that is already noticeable for many Calgarianans, some may wonder whether the Calgary Police Service will be able to continue their normal work.

“The Calgary Police Service remains committed to serving Calgarianans to meet their daily needs, just as they have always done.”

Mount Royal University Justice Studies Professor Doug King shares the mayor’s confidence.

“For people who may think ‘this is a good opportunity to do some nasty things …’ Give it a moment and see what is happening.

“More police officers will probably be visible.”

King emphasizes with a long time to prepare, and Calgary’s preference for organizing large events year after year, this is really things as usual for officers.

“This is the things that career made in the Calgary Police Service,” said King.

“We should not expect any problems.”

As part of its presidency year, Canada organized a G7 meeting of the Foreign Ministers in Charlevoix from 12-14 March, from 12-14 March and a G7 ministers of Finance and the Meeting of the Central Bank in Banff, Alberta, from 20-22 May.
