Sundar Pichai van Alphabet Inc. said that his company will continue to expand his technical ranks at least in 2026, and emphasizes that the human talent remains the key, even if the parent of Google AI Investments increases.
Pichai said at the Bloomberg Tech Conference in San Francisco and said that he will continue to invest in Engineering in the near future.
American tech leaders such as Microsoft Corp. have trimmed more staff this year and partially reflect the enormous investments needed to guarantee leadership in AI. The dismissals have caused the fear of the technology that replaces certain task functions. Google itself has carried out rounds of dismissals in recent years to free resources.
“I expect that we will even grow from our current technical basis until next year, because it enables us to do more with the opportunity space,” Pichai said in conversation with Bloomberg’s Emily Chang. “I just see this as making engineers dramatically more productive, so that many of the everyday aspects are achieved of what they do.”
Nevertheless, Pichai presented a vision of AI that at the same time was optimistic about the possibilities of technology and sober of some of his current limitations. While AI excels in areas such as coding, the models continue to make basic errors, Pichai said.
“So we are currently on an absolute path to Agi? I don’t think anyone can certainly say it,” said Pichai. He referred to artificial general intelligence: the dream of building AI that can perform with people on the same footing.
Since Google includes more AI in its search engine, publishers have sounded the alarm about how the AI-generated answers from the company take away from traffic. Pichai emphasized that the company remains dedicated to send traffic to the internet.
“Compared to most companies in the world, we ensure that an experience designs that links to present,” said Pichai. “We have done a long time to test AI overviews and give priority to approaches, which resulted in high quality traffic. I am convinced that in many years that will be how Google will work.”
Pichai has led Google since 2015, when he took the reins of Google co-founder Larry Page and promised to concentrate even more on AI.
Asked for what qualities the public can expect to see in the next CEO of the company, Pichai said: “Whoever walks it has an extraordinary AI and companion.”
