The county Supervisors On Tuesday, on Tuesday, almost $ 30 million unanimously approved, via the State Proposition 1 program, for a treatment facility for adult substance abuse in National City and a crisis center for children for children.

Voting on permission, the board approved $ 29.8 million for construction to start with the facility for recovery and treatment services for substance use, which will house 72 beds for adults and 16 new recuperative care beds.

No timeline was made available for the two new treatment centers.

According to vice-chairman Terra Lawson-Remer, both treatment centers “provide care before a crisis becomes a catastrophe. This is how we stop the rotating door and build a behavioral health system that saves lives.”

The two new projects are part of what Lawson-Remer described as a $ 185 million, broader regional efforts for substance abuse and/or psychiatric treatment that the McAlister Institute comprises, at Amity Vista Ranch in Vista; Palomar Health Foundation in Escondido; Inner-tribal treatment in Pauma Valley; And Casa de Amparo in San Marcos.

“These victories are not only about dollars they are about providing care, stability and dignity in the neighborhoods where it is most needed,” said Lawson-Remer, who is also the chairman of the acting board.

“We have made a promise to build a system that treats mental health and addiction as public health problems, and that is exactly what we do,” she added.

Lawson-Remer said that with government financing is now appropriate: “Local governments must move quickly to speed up construction, remove the bureaucracy and get kicking in the ground.”

Proposal 1 was adopted by Californian voters in March 2024 and is an overhaul system for mental health care, which creates 11,150 behavioral treatment treatment beds, together with housing and 26,700 outpatient treatment slots.

The upgrades for the treatment of mental health care would mainly be paid by the issue of almost $ 6.4 billion in bonds.
