The semi -final of the handball event at the National Sports Festival 2024 in Ogun State met expectations, with collisions with a high octane and dominant displays as finalists in both male and female categories arose.
In what turned out to be a perfect day before the guest state, Ogun booked places in both the male and the female final, which set up a possible double-gold celebration for the home fans.
Starting with the female category, the female team of Ogun conquered a spicy Kogi side with a 24-19 victory in a pulsating meeting.
The first half was a tight affair with both teams evenly similar to 10-10, but Ogun showed a larger grain and sharpness in the second period.
Supported by a passionate home crowd, the hosts pulled away in the last quarter and sealed their place in the final with a confident margin of five goals.

In the second semi -final in the female category, Sokoto provided a commander to set aside EDO 32-25.
From the start they took a lead of five goals in the break and never looked back.
Edo tried a comeback, but Sokotos’s attacking fluidity and tactical discipline turned out to be too much. With the victory, Sokoto set up a delicious gold medal against the hosts.
In the male category, the male team of Ogun corresponded to the energy of their female counterparts and defeated FCT 29-25 in an exciting semi-final.
The hosts led closely to the peace and held their nerve in the face of FCT’s challenge with an accurate finish and a solid defense view to continue to the final, ensuring that home fans have enough to encourage on Finals Day.
The other semi -final saw Lagos and defeated Edo 24–21 to book their place in the male final in a brightly disputed match. With a pillow of two goals during the break, Lagos was efficiently lagos, which reduced a late increase in the EDO Boys.
