Andy Robertson has joined Liverpool -players past and present to bring an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota, who was killed in a car in addition to his brother on Thursday.
Liverpool star Andy Robertson has brought a long and powerful tribute to his deceased teammate, Diogo Jota. A fatal car crash in northwestern Spain resulted in the tragic death of Jota, 28, and his brother, Andre.
The Portugal International was five years of teammates with Robertson, because the pair helped to win the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup. During that time, the Scottish left back and Jota forged a relationship that transcended the Anfield-Tone height.
Robertson thought of how much he admired his teammate in a post on Instagram, with a tribute that flowed in from all over the world. “Those I think most about are the family. Their loss is too much to wear. I’m sorry that they have lost two such precious souls – Diogo and Andre,” Robertson started.
“For the team and the club we will try to tackle this together … No matter how long that takes. For me I want to talk about my partner. My friend. The guy I loved and will miss it as crazy. I could talk about him for hours as a player, but none of that feels at the moment.

“It’s the man. The person. He was such a good guy. The best. So sincere. Simply normal and real. Full of love for the people he cared about. Full of fun. He was the most British foreign player I have ever met. We used to joke that he was really Irish … I would try to claim him as Scottish.
“We would look at the arrows together, enjoy the horse races. This season was going to Cheltenham a highlight – one of the best we had. The last time I saw him was the happiest day of his life – his wedding day. I never want to remember his moving smile from that magical day. How much he burst with love for his wife and family.“I can’t believe we say goodbye. It’s too early, and it hurts so much. But thank you for being in my life, size – and for improving. I love you, Diogo.”
The captain of Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk, also placed an emotional tribute. On Instagram the Dutch defender wrote: “Man, I can’t believe it, I don’t want to believe it. Absolutely destroyed and in total disbelief. What a person, what a player, but especially what an incredible family man.
“You meant so much for all of us and you will always do that! For your family to lose two sons, a husband and a father is just unimaginable. So cruel and unfair. My heart breaks for all your beautiful family, for RUTE and for your children. I promise you that in these difficult times and further we will always be there for your family.“A champion forever, number 20 forever. It has been a privilege to be on the field by your side, and to have been off your friend. We will miss you without words and will never forget. Your legacy will live on, we will be sure! Rest in perfect Vredes Diogo & Andre.”
