The last member of a drug trafficking ring caught on the transport of methylamfetamine on a remote highway in Wa’s Kimberley has been imprisoned for five years.
Merlou Abais Ruiz, 47, argued guilty of two counts of possessing methylamfetamine with the intention of selling or delivering it.
Ruiz received the prison sentence of five years in the court of Perth on Thursday.

Detectives accused Ruiz in 2022 as part of Operation Beaufortia, a major offensive by WA -Politie to combat the range of drugs in the Kimberley region.
All three of her co-fancier have already been convicted of their share in drug operation.
Gary Troy McINTOSH and Mark Richard Shadforth were sentenced in October 2024 to five years and six months and eight months, respectively, in October 2024.
Trent Bin Omar was sentenced to five years and nine months in December 2024 for his role in the operation.
As part of the police operation, detectives intercepted the calls of Shadforth in July 2022, as a result of which the authorities intercepted the group of the group on the Great Northern Highway near Broome.
Ruiz was initially released without guidance until she was again intercepted three months later, on October 13, with 10.58 grams of methylamfetamine.

Judge Gary Massey told the court that he was “willing to accept” Ruiz “had played a lot of less role” in the insulting, mainly driven by her own addiction to the medicine.
“Really, your involvement in both drug trafficking was companies, I am sure that I can afford to be able to finance your own habit,”
Judge Massey said.
‘Profit out of misery’
Judge Massey described his consideration for the personal circumstances of Ruiz, including her unstable childhood, with emotional and physical abuse, neglect and poor attachments to her parents.
However, the judge of the district court said that there was a “significant need for general deterrence” given the damage caused by Meth in the north of the State.

“Small cities in the Kimberley are very struck by methylamfetamine that reaches the streets in those communities,” said Judge Massey.
“Those who try to take advantage of that misery can expect to receive considerable prison … to prevent others from insulting in this way.
“You chose to own methylamfetamine with the intention of selling or delivering to others on individual occasions.”
The punishment of the 47-year-old was reversed until December 2022 to take into account the time that Ruiz had already spent in custody.
It is eligible for conditional release on December 31 of this year.
