Mirra Andreeva became the youngest woman who reached Wimbledon’s quarterfinals in 18 years when she was round four in round with a straight set of world no. 10 Emma Navarro
Mirra Andreeva’s beautiful debut ended in bizarre fashion when she forgot the score and did not realize that she had won the game. The Russian teenager became the youngest woman who reached Wimbledon’s quarterfinals in 18 years by blowing round four with a fast 6-2 6-3 victory over World No. 10 Emma Navarro.
But an unconscious Andreeva was so focused on her performance – and did not try to look at Roger Federer in the Royal Box – she stood in line to face another Navarro -Serve, instead of celebrating the conversion of the match point.
While her American opponent was waiting for the net to shake hands, the 18-year-old saw briefly stunned before she jogged from the basic line to the entertainment of spectators. Andreeva laughed at the incident in her interview on the field.
She said: “I kept telling myself that I am not the one on the score, I am the one who is down. That helped me to stay focused and in the end I completely forgot the score.
“I’m glad I did it because I think I would have been more nervous at a match point three times.”

Apart from the humorous mix-up, Andreeva did not suffer a hik while she was emphatically on course to pursue Coach Conchita Martinez-the Wimbledon champion of 1994. She blitzde Navarro to get the opening set in just 33 minutes and, despite being broken twice, was not unnecessary.
Andreeva is 18 years and 75 days and is exactly the same age as the Czech player Nicole Vaidisova was when she went to the last eight in 2007.
“It’s something crazy,” she said, after setting up a meeting with Belinda Bencic with victory in 75 minutes. “I was super nervous before I played for the first time at the center of the court.
“I really did my best not to look in the box there, because I knew that as soon as I look there, I would completely lose my focus. I saw Roger and (his wife) Mirka and it means a lot that you came and watched my game. It was one of my dreams to see you in real life.”
Earlier Bencic blew five match points on her own serve before he bounced back to reach the quarterfinals for the first time. The Olympic champion of 2021 also saved three breaking points in a fascinating ninth game of the second set against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Russian 18th Seed Alexandrova eventually broke to extend the court one match, but Bencic immediately responded to progress with 7-6 (4) 6-4.
“It was entertaining for you, but for me it was a big stress,” Bencic said on the field. “It was a difficult moment. I always got stuck in the fourth round. It was so important for me to break through the quarterfinals. It is a dream come true.”

Bencic’s best run in SW19 comes after she missed last year’s championships because of the birth of daughter Bella in April 2024.
“We did great to come back,” said the 28-year-old Swiss player. “It’s great to share the memories as a family. I enjoy it more. I juggling it like every mother.”
Five-time Grand SLAM champion Iga Swiatek drove to her second quarter final from Wimbledon. The Polish world number four started with successive double mistakes before the Danish 23rd seed of Clara Tauson 6-4 6-1 defeated.
“Although the start was pretty shaky with the double errors, I managed to play well and solid,” she said. “I’m not sure if Clara felt good, she said she was sick at night, so hopefully she will get a quick recovery.
“It’s the first time I enjoyed London – Sorry guys, I always enjoyed it! We are tennis players. We feel good outside the field when we feel good on the field. This year I feel that I can just play my game and hopefully it will last as long as possible.”
Russian world No.19 Liudmila Samsonova is waiting for Swiateek after she has defeated 22-year-old Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 7-5 7-5.
