The 38-year-old is connected to Margaret Court on 24 Grand Slam titles since he won his most recent top prize at the US Open 2023.

With Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz and world number one Jannik Sinner who rose as the dominant forces of the sport by winning the last six Grand Slams between them, Djokovic believes that his most realistic hope is on a historic 25th title on the lush lawns of South West London.

“I would probably agree that Wimbledon could be the best chance because of the results I had, because of how I feel, how I play in Wimbledon, just get that extra push mentally and motivation to perform the best tennis at the highest level,” Djokovic said reporters in the All England Club on Saturday.

Djokovic lost to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon Finals 2023 and 2024 and did not succeed in making the title match in one of his last three Grand Slams.

After losing Sinner in the recent French open semi-final, Djokovic arrives in Wimbledon in the unusual position to no longer be considered the All England Club title favorite.

The Serbian would show titles with Roger Federer on a record of eight men Wimbledon singles if he wins the grass-Court tournament for the first time since 2022.

But Djokovic, who won his 100th title at Tour level in May in Geneva, has been chased by questions about when he retired since he had long -held long longing for Olympic Singles Gold in Paris last year.

He hinted after the French open in June that he might not return to Roland Garros and was cautious about a potential farewell to Wimbledon.

‘You always hunt’

“Whether it could be my last dance, I am not sure, because I am not sure of Roland Garros or another slam that I then play,” he said.

“My wish is to play for a few more years. I would like to be physically healthy and also mentally motivated to keep playing at the highest level. That is the goal, but you never know at this stage.”

After years of fighting with Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, Djokovic is the last of that star quartet that is still playing.

The former number one in the world has been assigned by Alcaraz and Sinner for the past two years and he is happy that he is his only remaining goal to make the history of Grand Slam.

“In a sense you always hunt because you always go for the titles – in my also privileged position – the records and more history,” he said.

“I would say that it is now something else for me in terms of I no longer pursue the rankings in that respect. I try to play the best tennis in Grand Slams and try to win Grand Slams.”

Djokovic, who has been participating in his lowest Wimbledon (sixth) since 2018, will start his campaign against Alexandre Muller of France of France next week.

The Serbian, who has been in every Wimbledon final since 2018, will be sown for a quarter-final meeting with the British fourth seed Jack Draper and a semi-final against Sinner for a potential definitive confrontation with Alcaraz.

Looking ahead to that discouraging schedule, Djokovic admitted that his performances have not been consistent enough lately.

“My tennis level has gone up and down freely and fluctuated much more than most of my career, if you also see in the last year and a half, I have been a bit volatile with my results,” he said.

“This year I played two semi -final. Unfortunately I had to retire in Australia. In Roland Garros I was surpassed by Sinner. I think I was still playing a decent level of tennis that showed me that I can still play at a very high level in the later stages.”
