By 2027 Kohli will be 39 and Rohit will be 40, which means that large fitness and discipline have to compete well. With test and T20 formats that are not concerned, they can fully concentrate on ODIs.
Team India is currently experiencing a transition period with veterans such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who have announced their retirement of two of the three formats, the team actively tries to introduce new players who can ultimately follow these two legends of Indian Cricket.
Although both players still participate in ODI Cricket, former India captain Sourv Ganguly recently spoke about how the sport will inevitably go beyond Kohli and Rohit. Ganguly suggested that, given the limited number of ODI competitions that is available every year, it can be a challenge for both Kohli and Rohit, which can lead to complications.
By 2027 Kohli will be 39 years old and Rohit will be 40, which requires an excellent fitness and discipline to compete at the highest level. With the test and T20 formats, however, there are no longer possible – both dominate the cricket schedule to the next world cup – there is now a chance for both players to fully devote themselves to ODIs.
“It will not be easy, fifteen games a year. I have no advice. I think they know the game just like me, and they (Rohit & Virat) will make their own decisions. But we must all understand that, like everyone else, the game will eventually continue of them, and they will continue with the game,” Ganguly said in an interview with PTI.
It is important to mention that Team India is currently confronted with England in the opening match of the Five-Test series for the Anderson-Detulkar trophy. First, the visiting team hit 471 points in their first innings, helped by centuries of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant.
In this context, Ganguly stated that if Kohli was part of the Tour, he would have collected runs quickly.
‘Pension should happen if people ask’ why? “And not” why not? ” As a player you always know your place.
The duo has already achieved every success in the White-Ball cricket: a T20 World Cup and two Champions Trophy titles. Winning an ODI World Cup would be the perfect conclusion, so that they can retire in a storybook fashion.
