American immigration authorities have issued a blunt warning in an unprecedented massive e -mail to people who live in the country on temporary protected status: “It’s time for you to leave the United States.”

The e -mail from the Ministry of the Interior Security was intended for the 14 million people who live in the US who fled unrest in countries such as Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba and Nicaragua.
But in the days after the distribution of the E -mail, shocking reports emerged that American citizens in Massachusetts, Arizona And Connecticut have all received the notifications.
Nicole Micheroni, an immigration lawyer from Boston and a citizen born in the US, said she received the notification last week.
“At first I thought it was for a customer, and then I laughed a bit, and then I was a bit worried,” she said. “It was a series of emotions that took place fairly quickly.”
A senior DHS officer said in a statement that customs and border protection were “the communication and will tackle any problems on a case-by-case basis.”
“If a non-personal e-mail-as an American citizen contact and the alien was provided by the alien, notifications may have been sent to unintended recipients,” the officer said.
Micheroni and other immigration experts agree that American citizens who receive the e -mail are not allowed to worry that they may be confronted.
“This e -mail is specifically addressed to people who entered the United States, and conditional release means that the United States have agreed to let you in the United States and that you otherwise have no visa or a reason to be here,” said Micheroni. “So if you are an American citizen, you should not enter the United States for conditional release.”
Yet experts warn that American citizens have to take steps To protect themselves in the unlikely case that they are approached by immigration authorities that dispute their citizenship.
Kristen Harris, an immigration lawyer in Chicago, advised that American citizens who receive the notification must immediately ask a counselor from an immigration lawyer.
“There is certainly no legal effect under the current articles of association or regulations for a citizen to be ‘conditional release’, since in particular an American citizen would never, ever in his or her life, would be conditional,” she said. “On the other hand, given how … liquid is the interpretation of the current administration of existing legislation, I think that checking in with the private immigration council would actually be advisable.”
In recent weeks, the Trump administration and immigration authorities have increased the efforts to deport non -citizens.

Harris and Micheroni recommend American citizens who receive the notification to collect their documentation, including birth certificates and American passports, to prove that they are American citizens in case they are approached by immigration authorities.
“I don’t try to panic people, but I think if you are accidentally on a list, it is not surprising, but just make sure you have prepared some documentation somewhere,” said Micheroni.
The lawyers have also expressed concern that American citizens could be unintentionally grouped with non -citizens in other scenarios.

Micheroni said she has registered with her online social security account in recent days and confirmed that it remains active.
“This specific e -mail is hopefully not connected to the Social Security Administration that cancels Sofi numbers, just because it sounds like this e -mail went to so many different people,” she said. “But it is a concern, and I think that wider problems, these kinds of mistakes or accidentally put people on the wrong list, have very serious consequences.”
Not all experts have recommended to take action.
Jonathan A. Grode, an immigration lawyer in Philadelphia, said that American citizens should largely ignore the notifications if they receive them. Grode also received the e -mail in recent days and did not pay attention to it.
“I know that I am an American citizen, not on conditional release. I don’t do anything about it,” he said. “I had a good little giggle and removed it.”
He suggested that the government probably knew that it accidentally had American citizens on the list of e -mail recipients, but did not take any steps to tackle the problem.
“This is a government of Voorhamers, not scalpels, right? I personally believe that the United States is a very mature and effective country, and movements should be thoughtful, pragmatic and carefully taken,” he said. “This government does not share that opinion.”
“They want to become agents of change, and their way of doing it is very large and very daring and very aggressive,” he added.
