VIENNA:
Western allies are planning to submit a solution to the nuclear watchdog of the world that Iran condemns for “non-compliance” about its nuclear program, diplomatic sources told AFP on Thursday.
It is the final step in years of efforts to limit Iran’s nuclear activities because of the fear that it is trying to develop nuclear weapons, which denies.
The United States and the European countries will submit the resolution to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board next week, with the threat of referring the issue to the United Nations, according to the sources.
After a recent IAEA report has demonstrated “a general lack of cooperation” by Tehran, the United States, Great Britain, France and Germany, a resolution that Iran will find in non-compliance “with its nuclear obligations, said a senior diplomatic source.
Recent rounds of conversations between the United States and Iran, mediated by Oman, have aimed at limiting enrichment in exchange for exemption from sanctions.
Two other diplomats confirmed the resolution initiative in comments to AFP and said that it would increase “the pressure” on Iran, planned with a vote planned in the IAEA board in Vienna on 11 June.
Iran rejected last week’s IAEA report and called it a “political” maneuver and accused Israel of contributing “unreliable and misleading information”.
The movements come with high tensions in the middle over the military offensive of Israel in Gaza.
Iran has denied that they are looking for nuclear weapons and says it needs uranium for the production of civil power.
