Wafcon 2024: Madugu explains Monday’s omission of Super Falcons’ Squad

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has defended his decision to exclude Monday gift from his last team for the Africa Cup of Nations of 2024.

Madugu left on Monday from his squadron of 24 players who were released last Friday, despite the impressive form of the attacker for the National Women’s Soccer League of the American National Women’s Soccer League, NWSL, Side Washington Spirit.

The FC Robo Queens player has registered four goals and one assist in nine league matches for Spirit.

“These players are all national assets. Leaving everyone away is painful. However, CAF regulations limit the number of players we can take,” said Madugu during a Mediaparley in Abuja.

“We have performed detailed analysis in all positions – with an assessment of strengths, weaknesses and flexibility. It is not only gift; there were others we would have liked to have recorded.”

Madugu also explained his decision to include experienced striker Asisat Oshoala in the team.

“It is not that we did not want her or that she was not willing to play. There were permit problems that prevented her from joining us. Asisat brings a lot to the table, and we are convinced that she still has a lot to offer Nigeria,” he added.
