UEFA Ladies Euro 2025: Group A – Switzerland against Norway

Tournament-Gastheren, Switzerland starts their group A campaign at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 against double winners, Norway.

With Switzerland and Norway both considered favorites to go through the opening group, this competition is expected to be potentially crucial about who will probably end if group winners will come the end of this phase.

Team news

Tottenham -defender, Luana Buhler has withdrawn from the team of Switzerland due to her lack of matchfitness after wrestling with knee injuries this season.

Without VFL Wolfsburg -defender, Guro Bergsvand, Norway will be due to a non -specific injury that forced her to pull herself out of the team.

Marthine Østenstad has therefore replaced Bergsvand in the team in what her debut appearance will be at a large international tournament.

Switzerland is confronted with Norway in St Jakob-Park, Basel, at 9 p.m. CEST (20:00 UK Time), live on BBC One in the United Kingdom.

• This is the first meeting of Switzerland against Norway at UEFA Women’s Euro Finals.
• Norway has won all four previous meetings against Switzerland in all phases of this competition (W4), which qualified for editions of 1993 and 2001 with 21 goals without giving up.
• In 2025, Switzerland won only one of the seven games that came in this tournament (W1, D2, L4), two of which came to Norway against Norway in the Women’s Nations League.
• Norway has won only one of their last five games in all competitions (W1, D2, L2).

Prediction

While the tournament hosts, Switzerland will have the conviction to have seen what the Netherlands and England have achieved when they organized the last two UEFA ladies, but given their form, they need a solid defensive effort to give themselves a chance to get themselves out of the group.

In the meantime, Norway left at this stage in both two tournaments in 2017 and 22 respectively, but should be much stronger than they were on the World Cup of 2023, where they barely came out of their group to lose their group to lose to Japan in the round of 16.

They also defeated the Swiss in both meetings of the Nations League and when they bring the same quality, I see that they have the lead on the alien hosts.
