At least two people died tragically after a ferry sunk with more than 60 passengers near the popular Indonesian island of Bali Laat on Wednesday evening

The ship, on the way of Ketapang -haven in Oost -Java to Gilimanuk -haven in Bali, is said to have suffered a critical leak in the engine room, which led to a complete power outage and final capsizing. Two bodies were recovered and 20 were saved, many of them unconscious after hours in turbulent waters, said Banyuwangi Police Chief Rama Samtama Putra.

Associated Press reported that nine boats, including two tugboats and two inflatable boats, have been looking for the missing people and waves up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) high since Wednesday evening.

Ferry tragedies are customary in Indonesia, an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, where ferries are often used as regulations for transport and safety can be canceled.
