Pilgrims who visit Tirumala will soon be able to receive extensive insurance coverage, thanks to an initiative of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. “The feasibility of an insurance coverage is currently being investigated and modalities are being investigated. A final decision on this will be made after the feasibility studies,” said a senior TTD officer.
The proposal to extend the insurance coverage is part a whole series of measures that the TTD board in the last year are in accordance with the direction of the Chief Minister to take measures to guarantee the well -being of the pilgrims and the holiness of the place of worship.
Although the management of Darshan and other facilities for the large number of devoted people who visit Tirumala every day is free, there has been a broader exercise to guarantee the safety of pilgrims after the death of six pilgrims and a rush on January of this year that also left much injured.
The insurance facility is expected, if finally rolled out, the pilgrims will cover from the start of Alipiri Pathway and Srivati MetTu to their return after the Darshan. The nature of the coverage and the product will probably be completed after discussions with the insurers.
“It can be an extensive product that both diseases and life and life can be integrated with the Darshan ticket because TTD will probably pay the premium,” said a high official of a private insurance company.
The number of pilgrims that Tirumala visits is in the reach of 70,000 to one Lakh that can rise on festive days, such as Brahmotsavams and holidays.
From now on, TTD gives a compensation of a maximum of £ 3 Lakh based on a case basis for those pilgrims who succumb to any accidents in Tirumala. There were also some incidents of attacks by wild animals on the path occasionally.
