Tiktok launches in-app guided meditation exercises, the social network announced on Thursday. The company started testing the meditation exercises earlier this year with selected teenagers and now makes the function available for all users in the app.
The idea behind the position is to help users improve their sleep quality and encourage them to put the app down during those endless scrolling sessions in the late night.
For teenage younger than 18, meditation will be engaged as standard. If a teenager uses the app after 10 p.m., they are interrupted for your feed by a guided meditation exercise that encourages them to relax for the night. The meditation has a calming screen and soft music in addition to breathing exercises.
If teenagers choose to ignore the message and continue to use the app, they see a second full-screen prompt that will push them to go to sleep.
Tiktok has introduced new teenage safety functions in recent years in response to worrying about the impact of the app on its youngest users. The new meditation function marks the newest effort of the company to appease legislators.
Adults who are interested in the meditation function can engage them by navigating to the Time Settings of the app. From there you only have to switch on the “sleep hours” function. You can choose what time you want to see the meditation exercise every evening.
Tiktok has also announced that it will donate $ 2.3 million to AD credits to 31 Mental Health Care organizations in 19 countries around the world as part of its Mental Health Care Fund.
