The parent company of Tiktok and Capcut Bytedance releases the US-specific versions of both apps.
Bytedance, the parent company of Tiktok, plans to launch a US-specific version of the social media app, together with its popular video editing app Capcut.
The movement occurs on one planned Sale of the app to a group of investors, in accordance with the American legislation that requires the Chinese apps to repel or to be banned, according to Reuters. Tiktok rolls out an independent version of its platform that is specifically tailored to American users, while the video editing app is launched under a new name: “Capcut US”.
Tiktok is planning to launch A new US-specific version in App stores by 5 September, with the current version that is expected to be fully off in March 2026, awaiting a sale. The move is intended to maintain its large American user base and at the same time tackle the growing legal and political pressure.
The move comes when the Trump government renews the efforts to enforce a law, signed by former President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Supreme Court, whereby bytedance is needed to sell the American assets of Tiktok to non-Chinese owners. On July 4, President Donald Trump announced plans to start discussions with China the following week with regard to a potential deal for Tiktok.
By July 7, however, the Chinese government deflated Questions about the recent claim of Trump that he “almost” has a deal with Beijing to transfer Tiktok to American ownership.
“China has repeated his principle and position on issues with regard to Tiktok at several times,” said the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mao Ning.
Bytedance is confronted with a deadline of 17 September to divest the American activities of the app or to risk a national ban. The mandate stems from a law signed last year by the then President Biden because of concerns about national security. While the original deadline was set for January, Trump has postponed enforcement several times.
When the Tiktok deal was previously requested, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the US to guarantee an “open, fair, fair and non-discriminatory business environment” for Chinese companies. It also emphasized that business acquisitions ‘must be independently decided by companies based on market principles’. Until now, the Chinese government has shown few signs of supporting a forced sale.
Tiktok has more than 170 million monthly active users in the US. A PEW Research Center study Discovered that more than 60% of American teenagers and about a third of adults use the platform for news, entertainment and even to earn an income. In the meantime, Capcut has become an essential editing tool for both professional makers and everyday users, who offer a series of viral video templates and intuitive, easy -to -use functions. The app has exceeded 1 billion downloads on Google Play and is currently the best photo and video app in Apple’s US App Store, prior to Instagram and YouTube.
