Dekalb County, Georgia, has assigned $ 206 million to help homeowners receive tax reduction.

The announcement was made by Dekalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. Homeowners with an exemption from a home will save hundreds thanks to the leveled homestead option sales tax option of the province (ehost). Ehost is unique for the georgia provinces. By charging a sales tax of one penny, Dekalb County can finance the EHost program. The program is exclusively devoted to alleviating the financial burden for the homeowners of the province.

To be eligible, a homeowner must have all the vehicles to his name registered in the province. They must have a valid Georgia license or ID that is registered with the same real estate. Accordingly, residents must submit taxes with the same address of the property and have no other exemptions from the homestead in the same name. Homeowner should also have been founded on January 1, 2025.

Cochran-Johnson noted the coming timeline of the exemption while he discussed the EHost program of Dekalb County.

“Dekalb County is the only province in the state with a sales tax of one Penny that is 100 percent devoted to exemption from real estate tax,” Cochran-Johnson said Unpleasant Fox 5. “All residents with an exemption from a home receive the EHost credit. Homeowners have until July 14 to request an exemption from a home.”

The Penny Tax has proved to be a profitable company for the province over the years. In 2024, Dekalb County collected $ 162 million for the program, according to a press release. The then CEO of Dekalb County, Michael Thurmond, announced a saving of $ 1500 for houses with a value of $ 425,000.

“Dekalb County is the only province in Georgia with a local sales tax that is 100 percent devoted to exemption from real estate tax,” said CEO Thurmond. “Moreover, the proposed non -recorded Millage rate for the eighth consecutive year has not increased. Our EHost strategy for real estate tax will help to alleviate the financial burden of homeowners who struggle with high prices that are fed by inflation.”

Although all savings are good savings, the expected tax reduction is less than half of what it will be in 2024. According to Fox 5: “”$ 450,000, the savings are $ 424. For a house with the value of $ 300,000, the savings will be $ 275. “
