A new pill with fat-busting can help patients lose weight without suffering the brutal side effects related to some weight loss treatments, experts revealed today.
Diet pills have a checkered history and only one has been approved for NHS – use in the UK – Xenical – which is not hugely popular because of the method of operation.
The drug stops that fat is absorbed so that the right goes through the body.
However, this process can give rise to unpleasant stomach or intestinal problems such as diarrhea, which studies suggest that people have stopped taking it.
Yet, in a first round of human test sled in Sweden, the new drug-currently known as ATR-258-they used fat but still preserved muscle mass.
Weight loss JAB users on Mounjaro and Wegovy, on the other hand, have reported that they have lost muscles and fat, making them feel weaker or hanging.
Experts hope that experimental treatment could be the next major breakthrough in the fight against obesity, because it will probably address a wider audience that feels uncomfortable when injecting themselves.
Professor Tore Bengtsson, an expert in Molecular Bioscience at the University of Stockholm and founder of Atrogi, who produces the medicine, said: ‘This pill can actively reform the body composition, whereby fat is reduced when retaining muscle mass, all without requiring dietary restriction.
