In the aftermath of the Stampede in Bengaluru outside the location of the congratulation event of RCB in which 11 people were killed, the Karnataka BJP hit the conference government for alleged preferred treatment that was given to Minister Ahmed Khan’s son Zaid.

According to the BJP, sons of ministers reportedly had access to the stage and they were seen behind cricket player Virat Kohli, while members of the public continued to wait outside. The state government previously organized an event on Wednesday in the Vidhana Soudha building in honor of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team, where the general was not allowed.

The presence of non-official persons on the Dais led to criticism, whereby many question the preferential treatment that was awarded to family members of ministers in a state function.

Among those who are visible in images of the Vidhana Soudha event, Zaid Khan, son of Housing Minister, Wakf and minority welfare Zameer Ahmed Khan. Dressed in a white shirt, he was seen behind Kohli and next to the rest of the cricket team during the congratulation ceremony. It is known that he acted in a Kannada film.

Vijay Prasad, spokesperson for BJP, asked the situation and asked: “How did the sons of the ministers gain access to the stage?”

While ordinary citizens were denied access or had to wait, the release of the family members of the ministers on stage led to accusations of abuse of official platforms for personal visibility.

At least 11 people died and nearly 50 were injured in a rush outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the second location where the team was felicated, in a separate event organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association on the same day.
