A statement from AMD, about their work on the PS6, describes how they will use AI, because Sony confirms support for chatgpt.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has just been launched, but within the next two years we will most likely see the next generation Xbox and the PlayStation 6.
That in turn means that we will soon get more official details about the new hardware, from both companies. In fact, the other week, Microsoft confirmed that they made both a home and a portable console, after a multi-year deal with chip maker AMD.
As is often the case, companies such as AMD often make chips for rival consoles and also offer the technology for PlayStation 6. As such, they have just made it very clear how much it will trust in AI, in what the most important technology of the next generation is.
Of course there is not really something like AI, in terms of software that can think for themselves, because the technology attracts that creepy -looking people with six fingers is closer to predictive text than Skynet.
What is currently called AI is better referred to as machine learning and is very useful for everyday tasks, such as increasing the resolution and frame reasons in video games, without requiring extra horsepower.
Most modern hardware, including the Switch 2, already use such technology and in a long -term message on Twitter, Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President of Amd for Computing and Graphics, gave a first hint of what he is working on for PlayStation 6.

He did not use the sentences AI or PlayStation 6, but described how Project Amethist is a ‘co-engineering effort’ with Sony, that is ‘focused on machine learning-driven graphics and gameplay innovations.’
The project has two main objectives, the design of a hardware architecture that is specifically optimized for machine learning-for-workloads in gaming ‘and’ Developing high-quality neural networks that push the limits of real-time gameprafic images’.
He also gives specific examples, such as super resolution in FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution 4). FSR 4 is a machine-learning resolution-upscaler, who will be used for the first time with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on PC-Van assuming that you have a Radeon RX 9000 series graphic chip.
Huynh also promised machine learning-based frame generation and ray regeneration, in other words, technology that will make faster frame racing and Ray tracing easier to do and release the processor of the PlayStation 6 to concentrate on other things.
Of course no time frame is discussed, but Huynh is insisting that ‘there is a huge potential and we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved so far. The future of gaming is rosy – and we have just started. ‘
Although no one has a problem with solving solutions, generating frame speed is controversial, because it only creates the illusion of a higher frame speed. It is still what it is – 30 fps, say – and therefore although it looks smoother, there is often noticeable input delay because the operating elements are still stuck as what they are.
However, the really controversial stuff is the use of generative AI to make programming code and assets, which does not touch Huynh in his tweet.
Spend against Inflammation But the main architect of PlayStation Mark Cerny stated that “this chatgpt will support, if that is what the developers want.” He seems to imply that Sony will not push the technology that will have a hard time, but they will support it.
Microsoft has already made it clear that it is planning to use AI for much more than just upscaling and it seems that their lecture about the next Gen Xbox with the ‘biggest technical jump’ ever for a generation is based on AI.
How different that that will make the possibilities of the Xbox and PlayStation 6 is unclear, but although Sony certainly uses similar technology, it is still too viewed if they have quite the same enthusiasm for AI as Microsoft.
