One of the most intriguing areas of the Vikings schedule is the safety position. It has been a power area in recent years, but will undergo a major change this season. A new face will step into an important role, and Pro Football Focus predicts a Breakout season for one Vikings safety.

Vikingserritory investigates the decision of Pro Football Focus to include a Vikings security in their all-breakout team.

Three safeties have almost been the standard formation for the Vikings. Camryn Bynum took on the role of deep safety, Harrison Smith lurked around with the help of his disguises, something he does, as well as everyone who has ever played the game, and Josh Metellus was the third man who often came down on the line of Scrimmage and in the lock.

With Bynum disappeared, a space opens for someone to step in. Without significant additions via a free desk or the design, that man is Theo Jackson.

Pff has released them All-Breakout Team Jackson took one of the two safety spots before 2025. In his fourth season, the safety of the Vikings is in an ideal position for a Breakout season. This is what Pff had to say about his selection.

The Vikings concentrated most of their 2025 capital in their attacking and defensive lines, but safety is a position that is worth monitoring this season. Jackson is ready to help relieve those worries.

Jackson shone with an overall pff, 79.2 and a strict 77.1 pff cover with an overall pff. In his three years at the Vikings, the former sixth round pick played only 222 total defensive snaps, but in every season a coverage of 69.0 PFF finished.

Of Camryn Bynum No longer in Minnesota the Vikings have not signed or drawn up anyone to replace it directly. Jackson leaves the next man next to Harrison Smith And Josh Metellus To play an important role in the unique defense of Brian Flores. After all, three Vikings Safeties exceeded more than 1,000 Snaps last season, which means that Jackson can very well make an important contribution to Flores.

Recording the mantle of the Elker-down role of Bynum is a considerable leap. From only 7% of defensive snaps in 2024 to the possibility of more than 1000 in 2025 is huge. Will the Vikings ask Jackson to do that?

Jackson’s role in 2025

Jackson has always arrived and played well during his three years in Minnesota, as evidenced by his PFF figures. There is certainly potential for him to succeed in the deep safety role, with covering of his strong suit. It is a small sample size, but Jackson has two interceptions and four pass reinforcements in the past few seasons, as well as 38 tackles. 27, during the season, if a breakthrough is going to happen for Jackson, the time is now.

Jackson’s ability in coverage is what makes him the favorite candidate to take over the role of Bynum. The 36-year-old Smith still offers a lot to the Viking Defense, but he is not as sticky in coverage as he ever was. You also lose a lot of what he is good at when you ask him to always play deep. The same can be said about Metellus, which excels on the line of scrimmage in the hybrid role that Flores has created for him in his defense. I would hesitate to move him from that role that has caused every success.

Coach Flores should have seen enough over the past two years to make an informed decision about whether he thinks Jackson is ready to take on a greater role.

The Vikings could use this season less often with cornerbacks such as Isaiah Rodgers and Jeff Okudah who take on the fifth defensive back roller. However, I see no one who is better suited to absorb the deep safety role than Jackson. The chance is for a Breakout season. It is up to Jackson to take it.

Jackson was the only Vikings player to be chosen for the team, with people like JJ McCarthy and Dallas Turner.
