May 30, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Tajikistan have re -confirmed their dedication to strengthen strategic cooperation and to deepen bilateral relationships in multiple sectors, with a renewed focus on trade, regional connectivity, energy, defense and peace efforts.
They confirmed this determination during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, held on the sidelines of the international conference at a high level about the preservation of glaciers.
The leaders rated the entire spectrum of bilateral ties, which expressed satisfaction on progress and agreed to pursue new ways of cooperation, in particular in investments, education, cultural exchange, information technology and links of people.
Both parties emphasized the importance of CASA-1000 as an important project for regional energy integration.
The Prime Minister ensured the full support of Pakistan for her early operationalization and welcomed the CASA-1000 Inter-Governmental Council meeting in Dushanbe on 15 May 2025.
In the economic domain they emphasized the need to unlock the untouched potential in bilateral trade.
The two leaders remembered the decisions of the 7th session of the Pakistan-Tajikistan Joint Commission on Trade, economic and scientific technical cooperation that was held in Islamabad in December 2024 and decided to build on this.
They also agreed to strengthen the collaboration in oil, gas and energy through the twelve existing joint work groups.
Cooperation in the field of defense and security was noticed as a growing area, in which both leaders promised to improve the efforts in terrorism, cross-border crime and drug and human trafficking.
They shared the views on regional and international developments, which underlines the importance of peace and stability for shared prosperity.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif President Rahmon has informed the regional security situation about developments in South Asia, in particular the condemnation of India’s actions since 7 May as violations of international law and the UN charter.
He emphasized the need for international accountability and repeated the dedication of Pakistan to defend his sovereignty while looking for peace.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the center of solving the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council to reach permanent peace in the region.
President Rahmon expressed his concern about recent tensions in South Asia and praised the leadership of Prime Minister Sharif in navigating by regional challenges.
He again confirmed the intention of Tadjikistan to expand cooperation in science, technology, hydropower, agriculture, industry and tourism and to describe Pakistan as a trusted partner.
Reminder of the signing of the strategic partnership agreement during the previous visit of the Prime Minister in July last year, both leaders repeated the importance of their shared history, culture and geography in strengthening brotherly ties.
The Tadjik President praised the support of Pakistan for water diplomacy and was thanked by the prime minister of the successful hosting of Global Environmental Conferences by Tajikistan, including those about the preservation of glaciers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expanded an invitation to President Emomali Rahmon to visit Islamabad to further deepen the versatile partnership. President Rahmon organized a special reception in honor of the prime minister.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was accompanied by a high -level delegation, including Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar, special assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi and High officials.
On arrival he was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda and welcomed in Qasr-E-Millat by President Rahmon.
