A moderate house democrat from New York criticizes the suspected Democratic candidate of New York City for mayor, assembler Zohran Mamdani.
“Socialist Zohran Mamdani is too extreme to lead New York City. His entire campaign is built on unreachable promises and higher taxes, which is the last thing New York needs,” said Rep. Laura Gillen, Dn.y., in a statement Wednesday.
“Furthermore, Mr. Mamdani called to defend the police and has shown a deeply disturbing pattern of unacceptable anti -Semitic remarks, that Haat Stoke at a time when anti -Semitism rises. He is the absolute wrong choice for New York.”
It is the first pushback from a democratic officer to Mamdani’s amazing victory in the first round of the ranked choice of New York City, voting in the primary count.

Mamdani surpassed the former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the first round and won 43.5% of the votes compared to Cuomos 36.4%.
Cuomo announced that he would bow from the primary, but left an open question whether he would join the current mayor Eric Adams in New York City in running as an independent in the race.
The former Governor, whose own issues accompanied accusations of sexual harassment that derailed his time in Albany, told Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business that he does not exclude him again.

Jeffries’ explanation said: “Assembly Mamdani has held a strong campaign that concentrated relentlessly on the economy and reduce the high costs of living in New York City.”
