After he has surpassed the 90m threshold, two-time Olympic medal winner Neeraj Chopra is determined to secure a top position while standing against well-known competitors in the appreciated Paris Diamond League on Friday, amid a stars-lined line-up. Chopra, together with the German Ster Julian Weber and double world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada, is one of the eight athletes who compete for the highest awards in the second Diamond League event of the season, with the Herenspeerwerp.
Under the mentioned pitchers, five have exceeded 90m Mark. In the Doha Diamond League on May 16, Weber Chopra, who had also crossed the elusive barrier of 90 meters.
Weber achieved a distance of 91.06 million with his last throw, while Chopra recorded 90.23 m. During the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial Measuring in Poland on 23 May, both athletes did not get their best performance because of the cold, cloudy weather.
Weber triumphed with a throw of 86.12m, while Chopra finished second with 84.14m. Peters also participated in both Doha and Poland, so that third place was obtained in every event.
Returning to the French capital for a Diamond League competition after an eight-year interruption, Chopra Weber would like to surpass after finishing second in successive events. Chopra’s last performance in the Paris Diamond League was in 2017, where he became the fifth world champion with a pitch of 84.67m as a junior world champion.
Chopra chose last year’s event to concentrate at the Olympic Games, where he earned a silver medal with a throw of 89.45 m.
Keny’s 2015 World Champion Julius Yego and Trinidad and Tobago’s 2012 Olympic gold medal winner Keshorn Walcott both reached the 90m Mark in 2015, although their performances have since seen a decline.
