The new Knicks coach shook all the worries about taking over a team that Tom Thibodeau fired, despite the achievement of two wins from the NBA Final, pointing to the positives on Tuesday so he wanted the job.
“In the first place, nobody has greater expectations than I do. I mean, my expectations are high,” said Brown. “But these are the Knicks. I’m talking about Madison Square Garden who was iconic. You talk about our fans. I love and embrace the expectations that are accompanied by it, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Brown was hired just over a month after the Knicks, dismissed Surprising Thibodeau despite reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. Brown did not want to talk too much about that decision, nor the choice of the Sacramento Kings to dismiss him last season.
“First of all, Tom is a great coach and he is a friend of mine, but I don’t want to go to the past,” said Brown. “I am just enthusiastic about the schedule. I am enthusiastic about the things we are going to set up here and where we can go with the boys we have.”
The Knicks went 51-31 last season and have one of the strongest starting five in the competition, at the head through All-NBA selections Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. They would have started next season as one of the favorites in the east if they brought back the same team.

Instead, team resident Leon Rose and owner James Dolan decided to change coaches while they continue to look for their first championship since 1973.
“Our goal, starting with Mr. Dolan to Leon to the players all the way to the fans, is to build a sustainable, winning culture that produces championships. That is why I am here,” said Brown. “I am lucky to know what it takes to create that success: a lot of hard work, a high level of dedication and a focus on today.”
Brown spoke about wanting to win and New York called ‘a great place that likes to think’. He would like to build a partnership with Rose, the former player agent who represented LeBron James when he played for Brown in Cleveland.
“And when looking at the schedule and its reality is, Ro said,” We’d better move to New York because I’m a gourmet, “said Brown, referring to his fiancĂ© who was in the front row.” So if you combine all those things, it was a no-brainer for me. “
Brown is 454-304 in 11 seasons and NBA Coach of the Year Honors wins in 2009 with Cleveland and 2023 in Sacramento, when he led the kings to the play-offs for the first time since 2006. They shot him 1/2 seasons later.

The Knicks also appreciated his success as an assistant coach and won an NBA title in 2003 under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio and three more championships under Steve Kerr in Golden State. He also led the Nigerian team to an upset victory in the US in a pre-Olympic exhibition match in 2021.
“When I was in San Antonio with David (Robinson) and Tim (Duncan), it was about playing inside-out, and now fast ahead to my time with Steve it is about pace and space and that is where the game is,” said Brown. “If you can’t evolve, you’ll be left behind, and so I feel like I’m trying to do that and hopefully we can bring something here.”
Brown believes that he takes over a team that can quickly play as he prefers, but also has the versatility to play other styles thanks to Brunson. He added that the success of the knicks shows their potential in the late season.
The road to go even further next season is open for the Knicks, with Indiana and Boston being probably weakened after stars Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum rose Achilles -Tees injuries in the late season. But Brown said there is enough work to do.
“They are many good teams that are there. It doesn’t matter if those guys are injured or not,” said Brown. “At the end of the day, teams will find ways to win. So we don’t feel that it will be easier only because of injuries.”
