Next week’s MLB All-Star game looks a bit different than in recent years.
According to ESPN, the Midsummer Classic is the first non-spring training game with the Automatic Balls and Strikes System (ABS).
The system was a full-go in the spring training this year after several seasons in the small competitions. Teams received two challenges per competition, but could keep every challenge won. Only De Slagman, pitcher or catcher could challenge a phone call, and it had to be immediately after the call without the help of the bank or other players.

The system needed some coordination at the time, but apparently enough was done for the office of Commissioner Rob Manfred to introduce a proposal at the MLB’s Competition Committee to have the system in 2026, a Goal he had in mind Last summer.
“I think teams are really positive about ABS. You know, I do have that unscientific system that I use – my e -mail traffic – and my clear impression is that the use of ABS in spring training has made people more susceptible to complain about balls and strike calls via e -mail, to me, referring to the need, not true, not true, not true,” not true, “not true,” not true, “not true.
ESPN noted The fact that 72% of fans who were interviewed during spring training said that their experience at games with ABS was “positive”, versus only 10% negative.

In a new era with larger bases, switching restrictions and pitch timers, this would demonstrably be the biggest change of all, and it would be a pretty wild time: a Lockout looms with the collective negotiation agreement of MLB that ends in December of next year.
However, fans seem to like the changes, because the presence in each of the past two years has increased. It was the first time since 2011 and 2012 that the presence grew in back-to-back seasons.
