The top diplomat of America was questioned on Sunday about Donald Trump’s reasoning because he repeatedly called to Canada to join the United States as the 51st state.

State Secretary Marco Rubio appeared on NBCs Meet the press On Sunday where moderator Kristen Welker asked him if the administration actually took steps to realize Trump’s vision.

The president has made his opinion clear: he wants Canada to join the United States and suggested that his administration would also acquire the Greenland territory in every possible way.

The State Secretary gave his own translation of the president’s comments about this:

“What the president said, and he has repeatedly said this, he was told by the previous Prime Minister that Canada could not survive without unfair trade with the United States, at what point he asked:” Well, if you cannot survive as a nation without treating us unfairly, then you must become a state. “That’s what he said.”

Rubio told Welker that the administration had not taken any action to realize this Special tribe of Trump’s blusterer, who has alerted our allies.

There is an American military base on Greenland and the president has cited the geographical importance of the self -controlling nation as a reasoning for his expansive goal. Trump has made the comments on various occasions, also in conversations with his Canadian counterparts.

Trump himself made his goals of northern expansion clear during his speech to the congress in February.

“We need Greenland for national security and even international security. And we work together with everyone involved to get it,” Trump said at the time. “And I think we get it somehow. We’re going to get it.”

But he made similar comments early in December 2024.

“Nobody can answer why we subsidize Canada for a melody of more than $ 100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense!” Trump wrote about Truth Social. “Many Canadians want Canada to be the 51st state.”

“They would save en masse on taxes and military protection. I think it’s a great idea,” Trump added.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was reported in February by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as caught on a hot microphone that warned a group of business and employment leaders that the president’s threats were serious.

“Mr. Trump has in mind that the easiest way to do this absorb our country and it is real,” said Trudeau, according to the CBC.

“They are very aware of our resources, what we have and they really want to be able to take advantage of that,” he went on.

Mark Carney, the current Prime Minister of Canada, revealed last week that Trump raised the same ambitions with him in a recent call.

“The president always brings this up. He brought it up yesterday. He brought it up earlier,” Carney said on Thursday during a press conference, campaigning for a full term as Prime Minister.

Carney added: “To be clear, as I said to anyone who has discussed this issue privately or in public, including the president, it will never happen.”

On Sunday, the new Prime Minister of Greenland said that the autonomous Danish territory is not “a piece of property that can be purchased”.

During a visit to Copenhagen, Jens-Frederik Nielsen said that Greenland and Denmark should stand together in the light of “disrespectful” rhetoric of the Trump government.
