Madras’s Supreme Court came down heavily on the Chennai Corporation Commissioner J Kumaragurubaran because he was unable to act against illegal constructions in Royapuram despite the earlier instructions. The court, who picked up the civil servant, wondered if he thought an IAS officer placed him above the court.
A bank of the Supreme Court imposed a fine of RS 1 Lakh to Kumaragurubaran for his inactivity and ordered that the amount of his salary is deducted and transferred to the Adyar Cancer Hospital. The order was accepted during the hearing of a contempt for judicial petition submitted by the Chennai -based lawyer Rukmangathan.
The lawyer claimed that the commissioner had not complied with the order of the court in April 2022 to take action against illegal buildings in the fifth zone of Royapuram. The court also noted that action should also be taken in other zones.
Note that the IAS officer had deliberately chosen not to provide sufficient details of the action taken against such violations, the bank held him responsible for contempt and sent the fine accordingly.
In May, the Madras High Court sentenced a senior IAS officer to a month of simple prison sentence in a mining case for intentional and deliberately revealed to an order that the court adopted in 2023.
Anshul Mishra, former member of the member of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), was also dedicated by the court to pay a compensation of RS 25,000 from his salary to two old propenses, R Lalithambai and KS Vishwanathan.
The contemporary application was submitted by two brothers and sisters with regard to a case in which 17 cents were taken from their country next to Nesapakkam Road in Chennai in 1983 for the construction of Tamil Nadu Housing Board rental homes. When the country was not used for many years, the petitioners started a legal battle that reconsider the country in 2003.
