‘Lives are more important’: Gautam Gambhir at RCB’s IPL 2025 Win parties, Bengaluru Stampede

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL Victory Celebration in the city turned into a tragedy on Wednesday when 11 people lost their lives in a rush in the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The head coach of India, Gautam Gambhir, expressed his deep concern about the heartbreaking rush that resulted in 11 fatalities and left 47 others injured during the Royal Challengers Bengalurus IPL 2025 Victory Celebrations on Wednesday evening. This tragic event, which unfolded outside the M Chinnaswamy stage, has inflamed a national conversation about public management and the need for better safety measures during large public meetings.

Speaking of the media, Gambhir emphasized that such parties should never be at the expense of human lives.

“I was always in favor that we didn’t have to have road shows. I believed in this, even when I played. I said the same after we won the World Cup in 2007 – that we should not have road shows. Living are more important, and I will continue to say that in the future,” said the former World Cup -Winning opens.

Gambhir insisted on the organizers to take a fresh look at how public parties are structured, and proposes that they consider more controlled options.

“In the future, we should be a bit more aware of planning these road shows. We could consider organizing such parties indoors. We shouldn’t have done that. Fans are being excited, fan bases become emotional – but nothing is more important than human lives,” he said.

“You can’t lose 11 people at any time. For me, the roadshow should not have happened,” he added.

Previously, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also declared a separate fee of RS 10 Lakh for each of the families of the 11 victims.
