Liverpool will play their first game since the death of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva on Sunday when they are confronted with Preston North End in a pre-season friendly in Deepdale

Liverpool and Preston North End will pay tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, before their friendly game on Sunday after they were killed in a traffic accident last week.

The Reds are in mourning in mourning after Jota, 28, and his younger brother, 25, died tragically when the car in which they drove a tire bladder and crashed in the Spanish province of Zamora. Their funeral took place last Saturday in their hometown Gondomar, Portugal.

Liverpool’s pre-season friendly in Preston This weekend marks the first time they have played since the death of Jota.

In a statement that confirms the tribute, Liverpool said: “Diogo Jota and Andre Silva will be commemorated with a number of tribute to Liverpool’s match against Preston North End.

“The Reds go on the field for a friendly in Deepdale on Sunday for the first time since the brothers died tragically in a traffic accident in Spain.

“Prior to the BST kick-off at 3 p.m., there will be a rendition of LFC Anthem You will never walk alone And the home club will be a wreath next to the road supporters.

“Preston has also made a memorial edition of the MatchDay program with written tribute to Diogo and Andre.”

Billy Hogan, the CEO of Liverpool, confirmed earlier this week to LFCTV that the club was working on plans to honor Jota. He said: “As a club there have been many ideas and certainly many ideas within the supporter base.

“That is something that we will spend with the family and we want those conversations at the right time.

“It is clear that they have experienced an unimaginable situation in the course of the past few days. Of course we will certainly remember both Andre and Diogo and at the right time we will make those plans clear.

“We have the game on Sunday in Deepdale and we will of course remember them during that game. Then the Tour, then we will come back to Anfield and then the season starts, so we think of all those moments.

“Of course we want to ensure that we do the right thing and remember both Andre and Diogo in the right way.”
