Independent: Congress hits BJP’s movement to form the government in Manipur

Meghacandra spoke from his official home, doubted the legitimacy of the claim of the BJP, especially in the absence of a formally appointed leader of the legislative power.

“The approach is hollow. The process of striking claims to form a government is poor. Without a leader of the legislative power they can continue? That is the most important question,” he said.

The congress leader also claimed that the recent political maneuvering of the BJP was more driven by the pressure of civil society than a real democratic mandate.

“What they show to the public is the result of pressure from civil society organizations. They also admitted that they cannot move forward without the permission of central leaders,” he claimed.

Although the BJP is said to have a numerical majority, Meghamandra argued that it lacks political will and cohesion to rule effectively.

“They may have the figures, but they have no guts to form a government. That is the real crisis. The so-called Double Engine government has even failed under the president’s rule,” he said, with the emphasis on the long-term instability and violence of the state.

He also criticized the BJP for his inactivity in the past two years, especially when repairing peace through constitutional processes.

“For more than two years, no effective steps have been taken to reduce peace through constitutional means,” he noticed.

Meghacandra was concluded by underlining the internal division of the BJP and stated that forming a stable government makes it impossible.

“Even if they have 44 seats, they cannot form a new government without unanimously choosing a leader. It is an impossible mission for the BJP,” he added.

The political uncertainty in Manipur continues in the midst of continuous unrest, so that the administrative vacuum is deepened under the president’s rule.
