Health officials in the UK have taken Jolly Ranchers from shelves for fear of carcinogenic ingredients.
The Waakhond Food Standards Agency, based in the UK, said that affected sweets made by Hershey, Jolly Rancher Hard Candy, Jolly Rancher Mollies Gummies, Jolly Rancher Hard Candy Fruity 2 in 1 and Jolly Rancher Berry Gummies.
The sweets were forbidden to contain mineral oil-aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) and mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH), oil-based additives that usually enter food from processing equipment.
They are usually found in vegetable oils, candy, chips, grains, canned fish and baby food.
Both substances are prohibited in British food production about the fears they can collect in the liver and lymphatic system, damaging DNA and increasing the risk of cancer.
All Jolly Rancher products that are now forbidden in the UK contain mineral oils in their American versions. The products also lead the American hard candy market with a turnover of $ 160 million every year.
Hershey told British supervisors that the action has taken to remove affected brands from the British markets. However, there are no restrictions against these additives in the US.
Jolly Rancher products in the US also contain artificial colors such as Red 40, Yellows 5 and 6 and Blue 1, all of which are forbidden in the UK because of links to hyperactivity, migraine and cancer.

The FSA said that after the ban was announced in the UK on Wednesday: “Consumption of the affected candy is of toxicological importance, especially in younger age groups and where consumers eat a lot of the products or eat them regularly.”
The agency said that although ‘there should be no immediate concern for concern’ for British customers who have eaten the affected products, they should not keep buying them.
A spokesperson for Hershey told USA Today Thursday that her products are ‘safe to enjoy’ and that because it is a worldwide brand, customers can sometimes buy products in markets other than those where they are produced.
In this case, although Hershey is American, her products have found their way to the UK.

The spokesperson said: ‘In such cases, we cannot guarantee that the products meet the legal requirements of the end market, which may differ from those of the US.
‘We encourage consumers to buy all Hershey products from established retailers to guarantee product integrity and compliance.
“In the meantime, we continue to work closely with the FSA in the United Kingdom on these important issues and look forward to bringing Jolly Rancher products back soon.”
American health officials have not given guidelines for American consumers.
Moah is considered genotoxic carcinogens, which means that they can induce cancers by attacking DNA directly, even at low levels. This increases the risk that healthy cells mutate in cancer cells.
In the meantime, some species of Mosh have been shown to accumulate in the liver and lymphatic system, based on animal studies.
However, it is unclear whether similar effects can be seen in people.
All Jolly Rancher products that are included in the prohibition also include artificial dyes such as Red 40, Yellows 5 and 6 and Blue 1.
Although they are forbidden in the UK, they are allowed in the US. However, health secretary Robert F Kennedy JR has announced plans to ban the colors.
All these dyes are linked to hyperactivity, migraine and some forms of cancer.
