‘I still want to play test cricket’: former India captain expresses the desire for sensational comeback

Ajinkya Rahane transferred his aim to represent India in test matches, which states that he remains enthusiastic to participate in the longest format of Cricket for his nation. During his 85 tests, Rahane collected 5077 runs on an average of 38.46, including 12 centuries and 26 fifty. At the age of 37, Rahane also took the team in six games, which gained the victories in four of them, in particular as a captain, while Virat Kohli was in paternity leave during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy-Series of 2020/21, who won 2-1 in Australia. He shared these insights during a conversation with Sky Sports, while the 3rd test competition of India versus England took place at Lord’s.

“First of all it is good to be here. I still want to play test cricket. I am passionate about playing test cricket. At the moment I enjoy my cricket. Just here for a few days I wore my trainers, my training clothing, so I can keep myself fit,” said Rahane as I spoke with Sky Sports.

“I don’t think about the future at all. But I do know that I am doing well. I had a good achievement in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This Ranji -Trophy season is also going well,” Rahane had said after the departure.

“I also hit the final of the World Test Championship in 2023. After that I was fell. Selected or not selected is another matter, and the task of the selectors. But I thought I played well in that WTC final,” Rahane added.

The last characteristic of a test match in India took place against the West Indies in Port of Spain in July 2023, where he served as vice-captain of the team. This match marked its last test performance for India, completed in a draw. Since then he has actively participated in the Interior Cricket and led Mumbai in the Ranji trophy, including their victory in the prestigious championship for the 2023/24 season.

Ajinkya Rahane is an accomplished Indian cricket player with a record of 85 test matches. During his test career he participated in 144 innings and does not remain on 12 occasions. He has collected a total of 5,077 runs and achieved a highest score of 188. His stroke average is at 38.46, supplemented with a success rate of 49.50. Rahane has registered for 12 centuries and 26 half centures in his test career.
