Samantha had a quiet pregnancy and delivery eight months ago, so everyone shocked when she had a life -threatening complication four weeks later.

In October 2024, a month after the welcome of her baby, Zuma, she started bleeding abundantly and eventually losing four liters of blood, almost everything in her body.

While doctors hurried to save her life, her eyes closed and everything faded into black. She felt herself die.

“It was quiet and dark, and I was just in peace,” she said. “I felt nothing, and in my mind I knew I died, but I wasn’t afraid. It felt like I just went to sleep. ‘

At that moment she did not see the tunnel of light or deceased loved ones she expected, but she felt a huge peace.

Doctors discovered that Samantha had a pseudoaneurysm – a collection of blood outside a blood vessel, which, given the proximity of her C section, was considered a delayed postpartum bleeding – or excessive bleeding after birth.

Samantha spent a week on the ICU after the emergency situation and missed some of the early days of her daughter’s life when she slowly recovered from the test.

“Once I was aware of realizing that I was in the IC, and that my daughter was not with me, it was so sad,” she said, “She was only four weeks old and we both needed each other – we were still in the new mum/baby phase and we were binding. I just wanted to see and hold her. ‘

Four weeks after the welcome of Baby Zuma, she started bleeding abundantly and eventually losing four liters of blood

Samantha’s pregnancy and most of her work had gone smoothly, but a C-section for emergency situations was needed when her baby’s heartbeat dropped.

Although she experienced small bleeding after the operation, she recovered well. Four weeks later – the morning after she and her husband had marked the birthday of their first date – she woke up in a terrifying state.

She said: ‘I woke up at 5 o’clock with a wet, running feeling. I looked down and was absolutely covered with blood. My shorts and legs were soaked and the blood was also soaked by my sheets, mattress topper and mattress.

“Because I had already heard in the hospital, I knew what was happening. This time it was just that worse. ‘

In the hospital, doctors took her to surgery and raised several blood transfusions while she fell in and out of consciousness.

“Apparently the bleeding got worse at one point and I started crashing,” she said. ‘My pulse dropped to 52, my hemoglobin level dropped to a three, a crash cart was put forward and I just knew I died.

“In a wake here during this I shouted at my husband that I loved him more than from anywhere and to take care of our new baby.”

That was the moment she felt her life slip away.

While doctors worked to save her life that Oktobag, Samantha lost consciousness and felt she slipping away. Everything became dark and quiet, and although she felt that she died, she was not afraid it felt calm, almost like she drove asleep

While Samantha was unconscious, doctors brought her to an operation. They found a blockade and weakened blood vessel (an aneurysm) in her right womb ladder who caused bleeding.

To stop it, they carried out a procedure called a bilateral womb argument embolization – whereby the blood supply to the womb is deliberately reduced – using an absorbable sponge to block the artery, as a temporary cork.

A surgeon was kept on stand -by in case an emergency hysterectomy (removal of the womb) was needed, something that Samantha and her husband, Louie, hoped to avoid their chance of more children.

The four -hour operation worked, but Samantha spent a week in intensive care and missed some of the early days of her baby when she recovered.

“Once I was consciously enough to realize that I was in the IC, and that my daughter was not with me, it was so sad,” she added.

‘I kept asking my husband to bring her to see me, but together we decided that she should not come to the icu around all those germs. Coming home was the best feeling ever. ‘

Samantha described the permanent trauma that she had experienced after the test and said she was struggling with serious PTSD. For months she barely ate or she slept, was plagued by nightmares and felt anxious to be too far from the hospital in case she started bleeding again.

She cried daily, suffering frequent panic and anxiety attacks and constantly checked for signs of bleeding, sometimes even feeling phantom sensations.

In the following months they underwent various scans to ensure that no new aneurysms had been developed and after six months her blood count eventually returned normally.

Yet the experience made her afraid of the risks of future pregnancies and whether something similar could happen again.

“I want more babies, and because my business was so rare, I don’t really have answers,” she said.

“Could this happen to me again? Yes. Could this happen during a future pregnancy? Yes. Has this aneurysm been brought about because of my pregnancy? Nobody knows. ‘

Bleeding is relatively rare and affects 0.2 percent to 2.5 percent of women after the birth.

After all, the artist has a completely new appreciation for the life that she takes with them in the future.

‘I know it is so cliché, but this gave me a new perspective on life. I feel that I am much more chilly, and things really don’t bother me much because I know what could have been there, “she said.

“So what if I’m stuck in traffic or when my phone dies – I live!”
