The Open-Source PostGresql (sometimes also called Postgres) is apparently a very hot commodity for Big Enterprise data platform suppliers.
Snowflake acquires the private postgresql provider Crispy dataIn a deal that is said to be appreciated at $ 250 million. “In our discussions it soon became clear that the same trends saw those crispy data from the operational database world, also clear to Snowflake,” wrote Paul Laurence, co-founder of Crunchy Data in a blog after. “With today’s announcement, we focus on the Grote Markt for Online Transactional Processing (OLTP), with the help of Snowflake’s reach and the flexible, scalable Snowflake solutions for both work taxes and developers.
What PostGresql supports Snowflake
Snowflake has its own data cloud platform that offers a cloud data magazine for its business customers.
Although Snowflake has a growing customer base, this is not the same as the Open-source PostGresql community. PostgresQL has emerged to become a very popular database, not only for traditional Enterprise applications, but also for Agentic AI. That is why Databricks has taken over Neon.
It also introduces a solid developer community. Data analyst Sanjeev Mohan Venturebeat told that according to him this is an excellent acquisition.

Petrie noted that it is not too difficult to imagine how companies would use crunchydata technology within the Snowflake platform to build AI applications for common usage scenarios such as telemetry, gospatial and advertising analyzes.

“The growth of Crunchy Data seems to be flattening in recent years, so it’s not surprising to see them choose this exit,” said Petrie. “The wave of consolidation between data tools and platforms continues.”
Why it matters to the company
For Enterprise -data and AI leaders, Snowflake’s acquisition of crispy data strengthens an important point that may already have been clear to some: PostgresQL cases.
PostgresQL is no longer just an open-source alternative to its own relational databases. It is an open, much -used platform that quickly becomes a de facto standard for developers and the companies for which they work to build Agentic AI and scale applications on a scale.
The big hyperscalers, including Google, Amazon and Microsoft, as well as a long list of smaller suppliers, including EDB, Aive and Netapp Instaclustr, all already support PostGresql.
Now, with Snowflake and Databricks who throw their support and hundreds of millions of dollars at PostGresQL, it is clear that companies must have it as part of their developer and AI stacks.
