Emma Raducanu’s miserable slice of bad luck as a surprise Wimbledon Exits continue

Emma Raducanu was back in action in Wimbledon on Wednesday, when the Brit against the Czech opponent Marketa Vondrousova rose with a place in the third round of the ladies’ snonbles on the line

Emma Raducanu will be confronted with World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the ladies singles in Wimbledon after her impressive victory over Marketa Vondrousova. The revival of Raducanu achieved the back-to-back victories over SW19, because she won 6-3, 6-3 on Center Court.

The Brit was excellent to beat 2023 Wimbledon champion Vondrousova and produced one of her best displays in recent memory. And with a ladies’ stretch opened after a number of stars had crashed, Raducanu got the most difficult test from the party.

Her reward is to face the best in the world, Sabalenka, who avoided becoming the newest top seeds to leave the championships early, while they have a hard -fought victory against Marie Bouzkova.

One day when the second-year second year, Jasmine Paolini, was eliminated, the Belarus claimed a 7-6, 6-4 victory. Paolini’s exit made sure that only one of the top five seeds will reach the third round, with Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Qinwen Zhang that radiate early.

And Sabalenka admitted that she has been “sad to see so many disturbances” and she wants to jump over Raducanu’s obstacle.

“To be honest, it is sad to see so many disruptions in the tournament in both draws,” the 27-year-old admitted after beating Bouzkova. “I just try to take it step by step. I know I am focused, when I am there, when I fight, I know I have my chance in every game.

“I think it is really important to concentrate on yourself and do a step by step – don’t really look at the draw. This is something that can cause a lot of nerves and many doubts.”

Raducanu, 22, knows that she is a challenging game on Friday and says: “She is now number one in the world, so dominant during the Tour and has literally won everything so and it will be a very difficult match. I am just so happy with how I have performed and everything I can do is check my side of the court as well as possible.

“If you play an opponent like her, you know you have to play well, so I think there is no pressure on me in the next round! I tried to stay really focused today, I hardly looked at my box and I just stayed focused on the tennis ball today.”

Former British No. 1 Annabel Croft described Raducanu’s victory as a ‘explanation’. Croft said on the BBC: “That is quite a statement that Emma Raducanu has placed on this court and I think he is worried about Aryna Sabalenka because she plays at Raducanu at her best.

“If she can play something in that level again, I mean that she might not be allowed to play because Sabalenka will bring a lot of power to the field, but Sabalenka is able to spray balls around.”
