The RBI single from Salvador Perez broke a draw on Friday evening at the top of the eighth inning and the visiting Kansas City Royals stopped the San Diego Padres with 6-5.
The hit by Perez was beating in Maikel Garcia, who opened the inning with a single by Jason Adam (5-3) and reached the score position via the walk of Vinnie Pasquantino. Drew Waters later ran in the collection on the insurance with a two-out single Die Pinch Runner John Rave.
Reliever Lucas Erceg (2-2) won the victory despite the allowance of a Game-Tinging Twee-Run single from Gavin sheets in the 2nd time that San Diego’s Rally defeated a 4-0 deficit. Steven Cruz threw a scoreless eighth and Carlos Estevez worked the ninth for his Major League-High 22nd Save in 25 chances despite giving up a Leadoff-Homer to Manny Machado, his 12th of the year.
Sheets’ did not hit both starters. Michael Lorenzen from Kansas City went the first 5 1/3 innings, which made five hits and two runs with three free runs and four strikeouts. Padres right -handed Nick Pivetta lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and four runs to allow two and three neighborhoods.
When he threw seven innings with two Run ball on Sunday in an 8-2 victory in Arizona, Pivetta immediately got into trouble. He hung a turn to Bobby Witt Jr. With one out in the first, and Witt shot left to left in the seats for his 10th Homer.
Pivetta was able to control the royals until the fifth. After walks to Freddy Fermin and Nick Loftin, Kyle Isbel dropped them out. Jonathan India cashed in by cracking a three-run homer to left-mids, are fourth.
Luis Arraez received San Diego on the board in his fifth by stroking a two-out single to the right-hand center that Trenton Brooks scored. Pinch Hitter Jose Iglesias made it 4-2 in the sixth by poking a single to the right that Xander Bogaerts gilded.
Bogaerts gathered hits in his first three starting reasons, making him eight consecutive dating from Wednesday. The streak, which the franchise record bond, ended when he came out in the ninth.
Garcia and India took three hits each for Kansas City.
