Confusing to some and confusing for others, the pre-Draft position of Top Prospect Ace Bailey moved to the rearview mirror while preparing for a professional basketball life with the Utah Jazz.
Utah selected Bailey Fifth General on Wednesday, a decision that Jazz President of Basketball Operations Austin Ainge said it was extremely simple, despite the public concern about the Rutgers refusing to train for the NBA design of 2025.
“We do a lot of background calls and work on boys and everyone likes to be close to Ace,” said Ainge. “He is fun, laughs every day. Just a relief in the gym. We could talk to him. He was super excited. We are super excited. We are expecting a very bright future.”
No. 2 General Pick Dylan Harper (San Antonio Spurs), Bailey’s College teammate at Rutgers, described him as the life of the dressing room in New Jersey. The Tennessee -child raised in Atlanta was the number 2 of high school behind Cooper Flagg who went to university. Before pre-Draft posture changed the comparison, many thought Bailey would be in San Antonio instead of Harper.
Bailey said he is ready to concentrate on the game on the field after a company in the business side of professional hoops before the design.
“I am very young. I just come to the game, so there are many things that I can improve, physically and mentally,” said Bailey. “I mean, from jumpshots to more creativity, to more ball handling, only everywhere.”
Ainge said that the jazz was attracted to the attacking game and athletics of Bailey as much as potential to be a Lockdown defender.
“He is very skilled for his size. When I watched him, I was impressed by his defensive effort and in particular his recover. Many weak side blocked shots,” said Ainge.
Bailey, 18, was one of the two players who landed with jazz in the first round. Florida Point Guard Walter Clayton Jr. was taken over in a profession with the Washington Wizards.
Ainge said that the jazz sat down earlier this month and tried to imagine what the perfect design night could look like. With round 1 in the books, Ainge said that the Jazz, who ended with the worst record of the NBA last season but fell at number 5 in the lottery, hit the jackpot.
“We sat down and looked at our choices and said,” What would be the best scenario? ” And these were the two guys we really wanted, “said Ainge. “We feel very happy and are enthusiastic to have them in the family.”
